Nutty Bread made by a nutty baker

So I am sure the 2 of you are wondering what good a blog is if I never write it huh?

So today I made Banana Nut Bread.  Partially because I love it and partially to drive my boyfriend crazy because he has to wait a whole hour and a half to eat it.

I have flipped through several recipes and all of them call for similar things, some get crazy and call for nutmeg or cinnamon but you eventually come back to the bananas (which they never tell you should be way past ripe), a handful of nuts, some flour and some butter, and if your lucky some sugar.

So my question is which is the traditional recipe?  A bunch of spices, with nuts, or just a bread that was sweetened with bananas?

Back to Baking

OK I know the whole 2 of you who were reading have been missing me terribly while I settled in here in Florida  -- well good news to you - I am settled!

New day time job to pay the bills while I play the mad mad baker in the evening.
New house in various states of remodeling to house me and all my baking stuffs.
A boyfriend who is easily bribed with cookies.

How can life get any better than this really?

I even started fiddling with a new recipe.  I love the breakfast granola bars, but I always find they are either to hard to chew or are so full of preservatives and sugar that any nutritional value is tossed out the window.  So ta-da I have started working on my own granola bars.

These are a basic granola square covered with organic peanut butter and dark chocolate frosting.
I said better than the grocery store brands, I did not say anything about an absence of chocolate now did I?

So far everyone who has tried them has loved them.  The only down side is the frosting on this version is to soft to be shipped.  Oh well I guess I will have to experiment with more chocolate frosting.  Life is so hard.

Now Open in Florida!

Well the move to Florida went perfectly!  Everything is set up in the new space too!

I am looking for some new packaging ideas for mixes and cookies that are shipped so if you have any ideas please let me know.

I am digging out my note book to come up with three new cookies to add to the selection in the month of June so stay tuned!

Moving!

Ok.  So I know I haven't been updating like I should.  But with the medical thing in March and packing up to move in April I have been a little busy.  I am moving to Pensacola this weekend!
But I promise an update on a few new and exciting things -- a big one being cookie baskets!  I have made a few and plan to post pictures soon~!

V Day Cookies Turned out great!

Well I know I am behind in posting about my Valentine Cookies, but I was under the weather for a few days and playing catch-up is always heck.

These are the hugs and kisses cookies - I sent 3 dozen to my boyfriend for Valentines day.  Apparently he and all his friends loved them.

I also made my first cookie bouquet order for a friend at work!  Those cookies came out huge and wonderful.  I was a little worried but they loved them.

Great cookies, no pictures

I made the cutest cookies this weekend.  They are little cream cheese shortbread circles.  They stay so soft they melt in your mouth a week later.  I was trying to come up with a cute design to send to my boyfriend for Valentine's Day (I was behind the curve to post them for the store) and I think I hit gold - simplistic but gold.  I came up with a bag of 'hugs and kisses'.

Of course I was excited the cookies came out darling, I had a new display plate that was perfect, I was wearing the blue pants on the third sunday of the fifth month and I had a blue bird on my balcony railing. . .  except my camera died.  The camera that I have carried around with me everyday for the last 5 years in a little special pouch in my purse - just decided to die.  I was so upset I ate the cookies.

So I had these darling cookies that I ate and a dead camera.  I guess I need to go shopping this afternoon - flour, sugar, camera, vanilla.  Any ideas?

Welcome to my bit of the world.

I am sure that in my first blog I am supposed to say something witty and charming to draw you in so you will read my blog and become interested in my little bakery project.  Sorry to disappoint!

Quick background on me:  I live alone (my boyfriend lives in Florida), I have worked in the same office job for almost 5 years, I was in the Army, and I love to bake.  I am starting an online bakery on Etsy.com (peachesncreambakery.etsy.com) and after the inital start-up process of finding a name, and a target product, I let the holidays distract me from making a serious go at it.

A friend of mine recommended that I start a blog and talk about the bakery on Facebook and twitter to shamelessly promote my cookies.  I am going to start the blog today.  Hopefully I will be able to focus and keep my entries about the baking and the decorating - but hey life pops into everything and there are no definate lines to divide those sections right?

The cookies are wonderful  bits of heaven that melt in your mouth (others tell me that too!).  I love to go home after a long day at the office and bake something new.  I can not even tell you how many cookie recipes I have tried over the years!

I have started taking cake decorating classes to enhance my cookies and to learn how to do cakes.  So far I have taken two classes.  I went to the Holiday Party the instructor throws for all her students that year and came away with a trophy.  So I must have talent right?

If you get a chance check out my shop peachesncreambakery.etsy.com (see two mentions - shameless aren't I?).  There are some basic cookies there now, and my goal is to add a new cookie every 2 weeks.  If you are so tempted and place an order mention my blog in the comments section and I will give you a discount.  10% off a good deal?
